April Newsletter

At Pease Blossoms, meeting local business owners in Calgary-Buffalo.

April is going to be a great month for Calgary-Buffalo! I will be spending Monday to Thursday at the Legislature in Edmonton, and will have Friday and weekends to spend at home in Calgary. Alongside my colleagues, we will be sitting for three consecutive weeks in session. I welcome your comments and concerns on any and all government business, and can be reached through my constituency office at: 403-244-7737.

I was able to spend two full weeks in March in the constituency, and had the opportunity to take an extensive walking tour of 17th Avenue SW – a retail and entertainment district at the heart of our city. With over 400 businesses on the Avenue, the area is largely made up of entrepreneurs and small businesses. Under the direction of the active 17th Ave BRZ, I met with small business owners, enjoyed an amazing lunch and sipped many, many outstanding coffees. It was a pleasure to connect with the 17th Ave residents, shop-owners and those who bring such vibrancy, dynamic thinking and innovation to Calgary-Buffalo.

On April 23rd, the Alberta Wilderness Association will be hosting the Climb and Run for Wilderness at the Calgary Tower in celebration of Earth Day. The stairwell of the Calgary Tower will be transformed into the Tallest Gallery of Public Art, showcasing over 150 wilderness and wildlife murals painted on the stairwell walls. While we appreciate the sights of Canada’s great outdoors, there will also be a poetry contest, face painting, and games, making this a great family-friendly event. I will be cheering on the climbers, runners, and walkers at this event alongside my Caucus colleagues.

Last but not least, April marks the 50th Anniversary of my alma mater, the University of Calgary. Founded in 1966, the University of Calgary has more than 100,000 alumni living and working in Calgary – the nation’s most enterprising city. I completed three degrees at the University of Calgary, and sincerely look forward to celebrating this pivotal anniversary with my fellow alumni.
